Your business card is the ultimate communications tool. You can carry it, drop it or post it anywhere. Potentially and hopefully thousands of people will see it. With so many first impressions at stake, you'll want to keep these design basics in mind: Font. The font you choose will add as much to your image as any graphic. Serif fonts like Times Roman are more reserved. Sans serif fonts such as Helvetica are more contemporary. Different script fonts can add formal or artistic flair, but they slow reader comprehension. Paper. The sturdy cover stock professional printers use is 80 lb. The heaviest stock a desktop printer will take is 65 lb. Some 65-lb. stock is pre-perforated to separate easily into 10 business cards. This is convenient if you want to print your own cards, but the cards' edges will not be completely smooth. Layout. Vertical layouts are less common than horizontal ones, so they can draw more attention. But if your name, email address or Web site URL is long, this option may not be feasible. |
